Announcements

I am sending out Rosebud's birth announcements this week. It was so hard to decide on a photo (so I picked 3!) and I originally thought I would be using a black & white image but I ended up going with color. I am very happy with how they came out!

This Little Piggy Went to Prada

Rosebud has received some fabulous gifts lately. One particularly fabulous box arrived on Friday from her (honorary) aunt Lindsay. There were a variety of fabulous goodies inside including a box from Neiman Marcus with this adorable Lilly Pulitzer dress inside.

Lindsay said she needed an outfit to go shopping in, lol. She also gave us my new favorite book - This Little Piggy Went To Prada. They've changed the words to some classic nursery ryhmes to make them more fashion forward - it's hilarious! Here's one of my favorites: (to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star)

Twinkle, Twinkle Diamond Ring,
In a blue box tied with string.
Tiffany's new princess cut,
Twice the size of baby's butt.
Twinkle, Twinkle show your spark,
Can't change nappies in the dark.

And just because no post would be complete without a photo of the precious one ...

My little Rosebud after her bath, isn't she wonderful?!?!

Family Photo Shoot

We had our first family photo shoot when Rosebud was 1 week old. My aunt took some photos for us since I am always behind the camera. I love the pictures! Now I just have to decide what to order and frame ...

So much to say, so little time

I have so many pictures and stories to share but I know my time is limited. I'll start today with some funny crazy Betty updates - we've had lots of family time over the past 2 weeks which means plenty of opportunity for my grandmother to give me some good blog material. We'll start with my Rosebud's "birth" day. Betty wanted to be in the delivery room for her birth, something that I was definitely not on board with. She hinted to me several times but when she finally realized that wasn't going to get her anywhere, she mentioned it to my mother who quickly told her that it was out of the question. Then she said "well, she probably doesn't want anyone in there - is she going to let (uncommon husband) come in?" Uhh, yes. Just because you don't get to come in doesn't mean he has to sit out as well.

Although she was not in the delivery room for the birth, guess who managed to get in just minutes after? Oh yes, it's Betty. The labor and delivery unit has strict security and policies on how many visitors can come in. You are allowed to have up to 4 people in the delivery room and each person has to be on a list and have an arm band. Well, we got to the hospital in the middle of the night and Rosebud came very quickly so we never even had a chance to put anyone on the list. That didn't stop Betty though. She somehow sweet talked the nurses into letting her through because as I was watching them bath rosebud I heard someone say "we've got the grandmother here" and in she walked. It was fine at that point but we did think it was pretty funny that she got in.

The first thing she said when she held the baby was "thank goodness her ears are close to her head." I found this puzzling because no one in our family has ears that stick out but apparently my great great uncle did. Betty and her twin sister are both obsessed with making sure the babies in our family have pretty ears because of his unfortunate circumstance.

Betty is also obsessed with the baby burping. So much in fact, that when she holds the baby she says things like "your mommy doesn't burp you does she?" She also thinks that every squeak or sigh means she has gas and needs to burp. She says things to the baby like "it's okay, just let it rip." If you know me at all, you know this drives me up the wall. First of all, my baby does not always need to burp. More importantly, Rosebud is a little lady and I don't appreciate her constantly talking about burping and gas around her. It's not polite, even if it were true (which it's not). Oh Betty!

Friday YouTube

I am in the middle of about 3 different posts - I have more baby pics, great crazy betty stories, and other tales of motherhood to share but I am having trouble finishing a post ... there is someone adorable in my arms who makes typing difficult. Plus, it's more fun to watch her sleep right now. I'll get the good stuff posted this weekend but for now enjoy this fabulous wedding clip from YouTube.

Who Knew?

Who knew someone so small could require so much time & energy?
Who knew you could love someone so completely that you only met 10 days ago?
Who knew a baby could smell so wonderful?
I am smitten ...

Where Did You Come From, Baby Dear?

Be forewarned, the following poem might make you cry ... it certainly does it to me every time. I'm so in love with this little beauty.

Baby

George Macdonald (1824–1905)

WHERE did you come from, baby dear?
Out of the everywhere into the here.
Where did you get those eyes so blue?
Out of the sky as I came through.
What makes the light in them sparkle and spin?
Some of the starry spikes left in.
Where did you get that little tear?
I found it waiting when I got here.
What makes your forehead so smooth and high?
A soft hand strok’d it as I went by.
What makes your cheek like a warm white rose?
I saw something better than any one knows.
Whence that three-corner’d smile of bliss?
Three angels gave me at once a kiss.
Where did you get this pearly ear?
God spoke, and it came out to hear.
Where did you get those arms and hands?
Love made itself into bonds and bands.
Feet, whence did you come, you darling things?
From the same box as the cherubs’ wings.
How did they all just come to be you?
God thought about me, and so I grew.
But how did you come to us, you dear?
God thought about you, and so I am here.

Just one more reason the French are awesome

Have you seen the new Evian commercial?!? It's most definitely tv gold in my opinion ...

Click here to watch on YouTube, I had problems with embedding due to the size ...

In other important TV news, has anyone been watching the Bachelorette? I can't even believe what a sleaze Wes is and I am so glad Jillian finally kicked him to the curb. More importantly Big Brother premieres tonight (go ahead, judge me - I totally don't care). Apparently the house has been re-designed and is now "green." Can someone give them a memo and let them know that "green" doesn't mean it actually look like it's made from recycled wood? It's the stupidest thing I've ever seen - you can totally be eco-friendly and have a beautiful home but apparently CBS and their million dollar design budget did not realize figure that out.

I feel like I have to update the blog daily or else I get a call from someone asking if I've gone into labor. LOL. I promise to update when that happens ...

2 weeks left

As of tomorrow I will be 38 weeks pregnant - 2 weeks until baby time! (I hope - or maybe sooner) This past weekend my aunt (who is also a photographer) took some photos of me so we will always remember this special time. I haven't been into posting lots of prego pics (as you can tell by the lack thereof so far) but I have been taking weekly photos and journaling in a book my sister gave me. I actually like the photos from this past weekend so I am sharing a few ...

Deliciousness

I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend! I planned on relaxing more than I did (story of my life) but it was still a great weekend. I made my favorite dessert recipe for a BBQ that we went to yesterday and luckily the recipe is big enough that we got a bowl to keep. I thought I'd post the recipe for all of you who are looking for a fabulous summer (or anytime dessert) - it's pure deliciousness! This recipe makes a LOT so cut it in half if you aren't making it for a big group.

Banana Pudding

Ingredients:
Three - 8 oz. Cool Whip
5 cups of milk
2 large Vanilla Instant Pudding
One 8 oz. Sour Cream
1 1/2 Boxes of Vanilla Wafers
8 Bananas

Mix the cool whip, milk, pudding and sour cream together (in a big bowl, it makes a ton!)

Layer Vanilla wafers, bananas and cream - refrigerate and enjoy!

I'm a french girl at heart

I truly love all things French. I love croissants, the French language, french circus, Monet ... and the list goes on. I even have the Pimsler's French language cds in my car (thanks C!). It's a strange obsession but it's true. This also means I am a sucker for buying french stuff. Logically, I know that just because something is made in France or is french "themed" it's not better, but often, logic abandons me and I just buy. That's why when I saw a onesie in Janie & Jack this weekend that said "petit bebe" I had to have it, and when I read another blogger's rave review of Sophie le giraffe, I instantly had to buy one for my baby girl. What else am I missing?

J'aime la France! (I love France)

Rebel Without A Cause

I have written no less than 4 incomplete blog posts in the last week, all of which are saved as drafts, probably never to be touched again. While I could tell you about my wonderful weekend which included Cirque Du Soleil (fabulous!) and a mini shopping spree at this dangerous store and some new Prada sunglasses, instead I think I'll blog about nonsense. After all, it is Wednesday.

I am a rule follower, a people pleaser, and a perfectionist. However, sometimes I find myself wanting to rebel at the strangest times. I was reminded of this yesterday when I went for my (now weekly) doctor's appointment. The medical complex where the office is located has a large reception area and there are always some q-tips (white haired old ladies) waiting to direct you to the appropriate floor. They take their jobs VERY seriously. Last time I went in when it was raining I almost got tackled by one of them who insisted that I put my umbrella in a plastic bag. She said it was for the safety of all patients - apparently umbrellas drip and can cause the floors to become slippery (I wanted to tell her that it's the monsoon outside and all of the wet shoes that actually contribute to this but I kept my mouth shut). It wasn't enough for her to loudly call me out and make me look like an evil umbrella terrorist, then she told me I wasn't allowed to use the large bag - I had to put it back and cram my medium sized umbrella into the small bag. The nerve! So yesterday it was starting to rain again and I definitely entered the building with an attitude. I purposely did not open my umbrella in the parking lot so that they could not say it was dripping. I tucked it under my arm and walked into the building defiantly. It was a little anti-climatic. They were too busy helping other crinkles put their umbrellas into bags to stop me. As I got into the elevator I had to laugh at myself. How childish am I trying to fight with some little old ladies about umbrellas? If it makes them feel accomplished to get everyone to comply, why should I try to take that away from them? Next time, I need to rebel against something that actually matters. lol
