The Lamp from Hell

So I went over to my neighbor Allison's house when I got home tonight because Uncommon Husband was over there helping her assemble a lamp. I walked in to see the strangest lamp I've ever seen.

Uncommon Blonde: Where did you get that lamp?
Uncommon Husband: from hell
Allie: No, I got it on Ebay
Uncommon Husband: The seller's name was Satan

Apparently the granite base weighs 200 lbs and Uncommon Husband had to accept the DHL delivery this afternoon and then spent a good bit of time assembling this beast. Good times.

Blogworthy

Earlier at work today I was thinking I'd have nothing to blog about tonight. That was before my radio show. I had an interview for work on the community radio station this afternoon and it was ridiculous. First of all, it was totally in the ghetto (sorry for being un-PC but it was). I went in and they were playing some whacka-do music before our show even started. I was a little out of place in my black "Jackie O" suit. I should have been wearing a flowy skirt and Birkenstocks (more un-PC, I'm letting it all out).

To start, the host could not make our mics work. It went downhill when she started talking about a completely different subject than what we initially discussed the interview would be about. She had all of these crazy statistics and theories she had found on the Internet. Why she didn't ask me for this information is beyond me. She called the musical guest Bette Midler, her name was Beth something, she was definitely not Bette Midler. None of the equipment worked right and after we answered a question, she'd motion for us to keep talking while she battled the microphone - about what!?!? It was a terrible interview on her part but I think the panelists actually did a good job all things considered. Luckily, I'm sure no one was listening and unfortunately for you, the station is so grassroots that I can't link you to the interview so you can share my pain. All in a day's work ...

The event of the season

On Saturday, my friend (aka TV Gold) hosted the event of the season. In a town full of galas, you may be asking yourself which event? It was a baby shower for our friend Amy and it was fabulous. She caught a lot of flack for being particular about the details but her vision was exact and the outcome flawless. Check out more pics on my photo blog.

Boob intervention

Does my blog title shock you? For those of you who know me, it should. I don't normally talk about boobs, it's not very ladylike. However, I feel the need to stage a boob intervention. Call me a prude but I don't want to see boobs randomly during the day. Why did only half of the female population get the memo that massive cleavage is not professional or appropriate for the workplace? Don't give me the "I can't help it that I have large breasts" excuse, there is such a thing as clothing with coverage. If you want to show the twins to the world when you go out at night or at the pool, that's your business, but at work, you're making it everyone's business. Last week at my conference, one of the speakers wore a suit with no shirt under the jacket (with the jacket unbuttoned quite a bit). While sitting next to her, I could not help but see a full side profile of her breast. It was very distracting and I don't even like boobs. I actually found myself wondering if I accidentally ran into her with a pen, would one of her boobs spring a leak? I can't imagine what it must be like from the male perspective. Sure they'll make crass jokes about how they like it but honestly, who wants to be known for just having good boobs? Don't answer that ... I'm afraid there are people who would find that reputation appealing. I guess what I'm trying to say is that next time you're getting dressed for work and you put on a shirt that is questionably low cut ask yourself "would this shirt make Uncommon Blonde want to poke me in the boob with a pen?" There's a fine line between cute and trashy, sorry if that offends you ;)

Can you imagine what kind of Google hits I'm going to get from posting the word boob so many times in one post? lol

It's a guy thing

I'm the first person on the alarm "call list" for my office. That means that whenever the alarm goes off, I get called because I live the closest. I got a call on Saturday night and Uncommon Husband and I drove there to meet the police. After checking the outside of the building, the officer had us go inside and check all of the offices just to make sure everything was okay. The coast was clear but when we got back into the car, I looked over to Uncommon Husband and said "That was kind of nerve-wracking, I was a little scared." He replied (in all seriousness) "I was kind of hoping someone would have been hiding in one of those offices I looked in!"

Sometimes I wonder ...

Mutual Admiration Society

First of all, my photo blog has made it's debut! Check it out here. I must say that it's not where I'd like for it to be but I'll get there. The perfectionist in me wants a gorgeous, artistic blog and a fancy flash site but since it's only a hobby, I'm still practicing, and I'm not making any money - I can't justify spending money on a blog or website. Sigh ...

On another note, I decided to share the new blog with all of my non-blogger friends, as well as those of you who know that I am "Uncommon Blonde." I was blown away at the loving and awesome feedback I got. The best email I have ever received was from Francesca. It might not seem like much to you but it makes me feel so loved that I had to share. I also happen to ADORE her so I think we'll just have to form the Mutual Admiration Society.

Her email said: "you shoot with artistry and love – you can tell in your pictures that you love doing it - plus I absolutely adore you. Since I know we’ll be friends forever, I’m not concerned with the when, just making sure you’ll be available for booking!"

Thanks for making my day!!!

212

I have been in Tampa for the past three days at a conference. It was a great conference though painfully long at times. I am physically sore from sitting so much but all in all, I left feeling inspired. The the best thing about working in the nonprofit world is that I truly feel like I can make a difference. However, nonprofit or not, I've always believed in going the extra mile in my life. Why be good when you can be great? The clip below was shown at a meeting I went to on Tuesday night and it really inspired me. I want to live my life at 212 degrees.

Just don't

Whatever you do, just don't ask me these things.

To make changes in Word to a paper you sent me by fax. That does not work.

To delete an email from your drafts folder that you claim you sent me. It's on your computer, not mine.

How far away 500 feet is while holding your calculator and looking confused. 500 feet is 500 feet away. What is the calculator going to tell you?

These are real questions I have been asked this week. I kid you not.

On Fire

I was eating leftovers that I brought to work today for lunch and as I ate, my mouth started to feel like it was on fire. I could not figure out why it kept getting hotter and hotter until about halfway through my lunch. Uncommon husband, thinking that I never eat leftovers, had doused the entire bowl of casserole in hot sauce before putting it away. Awesome.

Well, a few of my fellow bloggers are participating in this 30 things in 30 days blog carnival and because I'm feeling lazy and this is an easy post, I thought I'd jump in for now. Probably won't do 30 days of this but hopefully I'll create a few of these lists of things I love, goals, and what I'm thankful for. Today I'm sharing items 1-30 from my life list. There are almost 100 things on this list and when I just opened it I was excited that I crossed off a few more (those will come in later posts). Fairy Tales Can Come True

Tonight I went to an event for work - the Princess Ball and yes, I dressed up as a Princess. I am not usually one for costumes but a co-worker talked me into it and I decided to be a good sport and go for it. How often do you get to dress up as a Princess when you're a grown up and get away with it? As I drove to the event in my giant hoop skirt and tiara I was praying I didn't get into an accident and have to stand out on the side of the road in that outfit. It was actually fun to be in costume because the little girls loved it! The event was a huge success, lots of happy chaos and an ice cream bar to top it all off. It was a children's dreamland but after they came down from their sugar highs the meltdowns ensued. I hid in the silent auction room ...

As for my lack of blogging I do hope that will change this week. This past week was so busy, I was out almost every night and it's been nonstop. As much as I love writing and reading blogs this week required all of my extra energy so I was MIA. I have taken pictures of several kids in the past few days so I'll have photos to post on my photo blog (if I can ever get it finished). Until then, here's a couple of pictures from the Princess Ball.

Everything A Woman Must Know

I have a book that I love called "Males, Nails, Sample Sales - Everything A Woman Must Know To Be Smarter, Savvier, Saner Sooner" I swear the author must be my long lost sister because she says things that I would totally say.

Chapter four is titled "Great kids, happy families and only flushable pets" - In case you didn't know, I totally believe flushable pets are the only way to go ... or no pets at all :)

She also states her opinions about a variety of things as if they are absolute facts (most of which I absolutely agree with). Some examples include a list of things that are not worthy of us (smart women) including blueberry muffins made with anything other than real blueberries, drinking wine out of Styrofoam cups and Carnations (sorry for all of you carnation lovers out there but I have to agree with that one). Her must-haves include diamond studs - whether they are from Costco or Bulgari, massages and high thread count sheets. The book is full of hilarious lists and stories about things like arm waddle and accepting your hair fate.

While it's not a book I would necessarily call a must-read, it does provide me with many laugh out loud moments while flipping through. More of this to come on the blog I'm sure ... I just agree with way too much of this not to share. It's validation people!

By the way, the photography blog is taking much longer than expected but I'll get there. Stay tuned

Little Miracle

Today I took pictures of a little miracle. I took maternity photos of her mother a few weeks before she was born and now she's here! It was so much fun spending the morning with this little snuggle bug. This beautiful girl is only 9 days old!

I am working on a new blog for my photography and hope to have it ready by tomorrow. I'm only going to post a couple of pictures here for now and the rest will be on the new site.

Window Shopping

We went out to dinner downtown a few months ago and saw this sign in the window of a toy store. Funny stuff ...

It's for fools

I do not love April Fool's day. Call me no fun if you wish but I think April Fool's jokes are usually mean. Case in point - Uncommon Husband comes in while I'm getting ready for work this morning and says "There's someone on the back porch again!" My heart nearly stopped. He quickly said April Fool's but I was still mad. For those of you who don't know why this is a mean joke, read my post about our fanged friend who was sleeping on our porch a couple of weeks ago.

By the way, in full disclosure about my "new thing" I did break the rules and buy a new pair of Havaiana flip flops last week. I can't justify it - I didn't need them, I just saw the sales girl wearing them and wanted them.
